Dreams Of The Starry Rainfall

He had the most beautiful eyes in the world yet he couldn't see. A 9 year old boy who was seen as blind by the people around him, had his own universe unfold within him, that he would constantly "see" and create, which no one else could. Even I can't describe how it looked, I'll say it was like music, music from the Veena of Ma Saraswati.

People asked him why was he so lost and he would just give them his innocent smile. His smile meant something though. Firstly the world had misunderstood his ecstacy for being lost, secondly they were not aware of his dreams yet and the state in which he would enter while seeing those dreams, for in those moments he would shed tears somewhere deep within.

His dreams were what he loved the most and surprisingly he had this ability to remember all of them, for all of them were the same. He dreamt of heavy rainfall which resonated with his beating heart, and amidst those falling drops he would see miniature stars of the milky way falling like crystals, blooming like flowers. The rain would drench him completely and he would start smiling again, as if understanding the rain, which was his own reflection. He would also hear a faint voice, the voice of a female, as if calling him from far away.

After waking up his work would start, the world was where he physically lived and he had developed this unique way of filtering things. Very silently he would absorb the laughter of the people around, their kind gestures and all those songs of the birds on the tree branches that  had enthralled him. At the same time all kind of negativity was ignored and filtered out. The other day he was walking past a temple and he heard the voice of the temple bells for the first time, he quickly imbibed the sounds. It was his now. Within the bells rang and his pure soul danced in madness.

Every night when he dreamt of those starry rains, he tried to search for the origin of the voice, sometimes he would really get anxious, while the other times he just stepped back and enjoyed the female voice amidst the falling raindrops. His idea was simple, if he was not able to find her he would make efforts to understand her atleast, sense the voice in the pure form, appreciate it, respect it, and maybe call her back.

Ah! Call her back. He didn't simply call her back, he started singing for her, singing with all the intensity, with all his heart. The rain rejoiced further listening to the melodious music which was so angelic. Very slowly he found his music reverberate with the females voice and he knew he was very close. Her voice was much clear now. There in the rain with all those scintillating stars, she appeared for the first time, the Devi.

Dressed in Red, holding a trident in her hand, riding on a lion, radiating glitter in the starry rain, Ma Durga moves closer to her son, who couldn't see the world because he was blind, yet he could see her in his depths. She was the light which the life within him constantly seeked, an unquenchable thirst, Ma Durga approaching him in his dream was just like Shri Ram finally arriving in the hut of Shabri.

All that remains in between their eyes is the rain. He is awestruck as he sees through the starry drops into the eyes of Ma Durga. In her eyes he sees the physical world for the first time. The different colours, the appearance of people, the beauty of different land forms, the allure of the city lights. He saw it all yet he felt something was incomplete, his eyes spoke to Ma's eyes now, his eyes searched for her even there. Ma smiles and her eyes begin emanating a powerful light, the intensity is such that he isn't able to see anything now, as if blinded in his dream too, he isn't able to see the rain, nothing at all, he falls on her feet.

He wakes up the next morning, a bit confused about what he saw in the dream last night. There is this peculiar smell coming from outside, the smell of the soil when rain falls on it for the first time. He walks towards the window to hear something, the sound of drops falling, It is raining outside! He feels her presence as she says- "You don't need to search for me in the physical world or in your dreams now, I've arrived within you and I shall stay here forever my child. Infact I was always here. Can a mother ever leave her child alone?"
